Free business start-up training

Thanks to funding from NatWest’s Skills and Opportunities Fund I am working with Action West London to deliver a start your own business programme. There are six core workshops and a range of optional modules plus some one to one support and an opportunity to test trade on Acton market. All sessions take place in central Acton, London W3.

Module 1: Is a business right for you?

We’ll cover what is involved in running a business and whether or not it is for you

Content includes:

  • advantages and disadvantages of running a business
  • uncovering your motivation
  • operating legally
  • what’s the right option for you?
  • what do you need to do next?

Module 4: Getting the word out

What marketing will you need to do to achieve your sales targets?

  • how does your ideal customer reach a buying decision
  • who has influence or decision making power
  • what marketing is required at each step of your buyer’s decision making process
  • tips for producing effective marketing materials

Module 2: What’s your business?

This session will help you to define just what your business proposition is.

  • how your business will make money

Module 5: Financial planning

In this module we get down to some serious financial planning including taxation

Content includes:

  • financial planning documents
  • the importance of a cash flow forecast
  • how to plan your cash flow and overcome problems
  • basic taxation and how it applies to your business
  • planning for your tax bills

Module 3: Making money

We’ll look at the basics of finance to enable you to run profitable businesses

Module 6: Business planning

This is the final core module in which we pull everything together

First steps to your own business

This is an intensive day which covers the content of Modules 1, 2 and 4 looking at the legal aspects of running a business, what you are selling and how to win customers

Lunch and learn... finance

This is a practical two hour session designed to help you to develop your financial plans. We’ll work on your cashflow and budget forecasts. Bring your lunch for a working lunch session.

Monday 8th October Noon-2.00p.m.

Planning for success

This is an intensive day which covers the content of Modules 3, 5 and 6. We focus on financial and business planning, including pricing strategies, budgeting, cashflow planning, taxation and what needs to be in your business plan.

Saturday 13th October 10.00a.m.-4.00p.m.

Lunch & learn... marketing

This is a practical working session designed to help you get some basic marketing in place to win your first customers. Bring your own lunch.
